Maharashtra

Koli - This is the traditional dance of the fisher folk of Maharashtra.

Gondhal - This is a dance performed in praise of goddess Ambabai of Maharashtra.It narrates the deeds of the goddess and her different incarnations as kali, Mahishasurmardini, etc.

Jagran - Dance done by a couple named –“Waghya and Murali”. They sing and dance in praise of God Khandoba.

 Lavani - This is one of the most famous folk dances of MaharshtraThe dance itself has reflections of kathak.

Shetkari Dance - The Farmers dance done to celebrate a good harvest Young men and women participate in this dance in a festive mood.

Lezim - This dance gets its name from the main instrument used in the dance-the lezim.T his dance is mainly accomp[anied by the Dhol and another percussion instrument called the Tasha.

Dandiya

Taali Garba - Garba is a very graceful form of dance among the Gujaratis and it is performed on nine nights, of 'Navratri' to praise Goddess Ambika. Women dance gracefully in circles using, 'Taali' or claps to keep the rhythm.

Beda (pot) Garba - This is another variation of Garba where the ladies dance with  “bedu” (pots) in their hands.

Dandiya Raas - This is the most popular folk dance from Gujarat.It is very simple dance and is performed by a group who move in circles to measure steps, marking time by clanking sticks called dandiya. This is a very energetic, colorful and playful dance

Tippani - this dance is performed by the women folk of Chorwad. Women laborers engaged in house construction beat the floor for a glossy surface with a long sticks called as tippan. This dance form has evolved from this daily routine to break the monotony of the work Females perform this dance with sticks in their hands, which they strike on the ground to the beats of the drum.

Athang Raas

 Roomaal Dance - This is a variation of the garba. Here the participants waive colorful scarves (roomals) in their hands as they dance to the beat of the music.

 Athang Raas (Gof Gunthan) - Gof Gunthan, popularly known, as Athanga Nritya is a very intricate and entertaining variation of Dandia Raas. Every player holds a stick in one hand and a colored string in the other. They weave a braid and unweave it as they dance striking the stick in the other hand to keep the rhythm.

Kalbeliya - The sensuous fast paced snake charmer dance of The Kalbeliya gypsies of Rajasthan The dancers wear a traditional long black skirt embroidered with silver and colorful ribbons.

Tera Tali - Tera Taali is a devotional dance in honor of folk hero Baba Ramdeo by women of Kamar community. They dance with cymbals tied to various parts of their body, which they strike by the ones in their hands with the dance movements.

Ghoomar - Ghoomar is a traditional women's folk dance of and is performed only by women..The women dance in a  circle with rapid turning movements.

Kacchi Ghodi and Kathputli - The kacchi ghodi –the dummy horse dance of  Rajasthan Kathputli-the Puppets are an integral part of the culture of Rajathsan and this dance involves puppet like movements done to the beat of drums.

Mando - Mando is a very popular dance in the Christian community of Goa and is accompanied by the Dulpod songs.

Kummi/Kolattam - This is a simple dance performed by women and young girls. They perform this in a circle as they clap their hands to keep the beat along with the singing of the kummi songs.

Kolattam - is similar to kummi but in this the dancers keep the beat by striking small sticks, which they hold in their hands.
Kummi and kolattam are dances popular all over south India.

Lambadi Dance - The dance of the Lambadis  ,tribals who are also known as the Banjaras.

Kaikotikalli - Kaikottikali or Thiruvathirakali is an extremely popular folk dance performed by the maidens of Kerala. It is a group dance that used to be performed on the occasion of Onam and Thiruvathira.

Oppana - This is a Bridal Dance done to mapillapattu songs .It is performed by Muslim Girls of Malabar region of Kerala and is essential to the wedding entertainment and festivities.

Velakalli - This is one of the most spectacular and extremely vigorous martial folk dance performed in Kerala.

Kummi/Kolattam - similar to the kummi kolattam done in all other regions of South India

Karagattam - A folk dance with musical accompaniment performed balancing a pot on the head. Traditionally, this dance is performed in praise of the rain goddess Mari Amman and river goddess, Gangai Amman.

Kurathi - Kurathi is the gypsy dance of the state of Tamilnadu. A priceless treasure in the folk tradition, the kurathi dance is known for its energetic movements and upbeat rhythmic patterns.
